We had a wonderful day on Friday. We drove to Logan Utah and went to the Willow Park Zoo and we met our friends Monica, William and Kate. We were a little worried when we arrived and the gates weren't open. William and Alex were anxious to get in.

This zoo is really nice and just the right size for toddlers. It is in a park like setting and has so many birds that I thought it might be a bird sanctuary. And then we saw something that I have never seen before. A kangaroo. I was so excited I forgot to take a picture of it. Alex thought it was a dog.
I was really excited to see the Raccoons. I had one for a pet when I was four years old. His name was Racky and my Dad rescued him after his Mom was hit by a car. He would sneak into my room at night and pull my long hair. And for fun, he would poop on the counter and get into the flour and sugar canisters. My Mom said he had to go or she was leaving. They got rid of Racky and soon after that I got a sister. I think the Raccoon was less work.

We also saw Bald Eagles, Golden Eagles, Coyotes, Red Fox and Bob Cats. There were a group of Vultures that were really freaking us out. They just look so menacing.
Mallory and Kate were very excited about something. Kate is wondering why Mallory is so big and what we have been feeding her. Mallory is only 4 months older. I think it is time for us to make the switch to Organic.

It was so nice to get out of town for a couple hours, enjoy some adult conversation and see the fall colors in the stunning Cache Valley.

My friend Monica makes beautiful jewelry and she is making some really special pieces. She gave me one for our 2 year anniversary of our friendship and it is so awesome! It is a Pregnancy Necklace with my kid's birthstones in the center. I love it so much that I am going to be giving one away at the end of the month. Subscribe to my feed so you don't miss out! And stop by Moon Over Maize and check out all of the other great jewelry that she makes.
But wait....There's More! While Alex was in Denver, he went to the Denver Zoo with his Uncle Robert.
He saw all kinds of animals! They even have a baby Elephant. But as you can see from this picture....Alex is very intimidating. He has this poor Ape cowering behind a table.

Robert did a great job of taking over the care of Alex because Nana fell and broke her arm Saturday afternoon. Alex really made him work hard....providing TWO poopy diapers for him to change. Poor Robert had never changed a diaper before and Alex broke him in right!
Thank you Uncle Robert!

Looks like lots of fun was had at the Zoo. I SO cracked up when I read the quote from Jerry Lewis. Funny True Story: When my brother and I were young, someone rang the doorbell. When my brother answered the fellow said, "I'm here to pick up the collection for 'The Retarded Citizens Foundation'." I'm sure my mom pre-arranged for a bag or two to be donated, however, my brother turned around and said, "Mary Lou...they came to pick you up." That story is told at every family reunion. Hee-hee.
ReplyDeleteLOL about the cowering gorilla! Sorry your MIL broke her arm.
ReplyDeleteand that was such a fun morning!! We'll have to find something else to do before the weather changes too much.
ReplyDeletelast comment....sorry! Robert and Calvin look so much alike! I thought it was Calvin in that picture at first glance.
ReplyDeleteM.L. That is a great story! I love family stories like that!
ReplyDeleteMonica. Comment away. I love comments. They are like candy for me. he he. Alex thinks that Rob looks like Daddy too. He can't tell the two of them apart. He probably thinks he went to the Zoo with Daddy!
First of all- I agree with Monica - I totally though Robert was Calvin until I read that part.
ReplyDeleteAlso - I am DYING over the fact that you had a pet raccoon. You are full of surprises!
This reminds me, I need to check out the zoo here!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen a kangaroo, either!
I have never been to that zoo before! It looks like you had fun!
ReplyDeleteAlex was probably wondering what kind of ghetto zoo mommy took him to when Robert/daddy took him to a zoo with real wild animals!
ReplyDeletei think i got a picture of that kangaroo.
ReplyDeletealthough it's really FAR back, through a chain link fence.
i'll see if i can send it to you!
LOVED the elephants at that zoo!
