Office Hours and Goals

Remember on Friday when I was telling you about my new best friend Jen Hinton (shhh....don't tell her, she doesn't know yet). I'm so inspired by this gal! Last week on her radio show she was talking about how she decided to set Office Hours so that she could get more done and spend less time online.

I loved what she had to say about it and the idea that I should treat my blogging time like a business instead of mindlessly spending time online. I'm always mindful of how much time I am spending on twitter and facebook and google reader...and it feels like I'm always trying to cut back.

So....I decided that I will create Office Hours too.

Connie's Office Hours
6:30am-8:00am Email, update Facebook and Twitter, read blogs

9:45am-10:45am Email, update FB and Twitter, listen to Jen's Show

1:30pm-3:30pm Email, update FB & Twitter, Write blog posts

9:00pm-10:pm Email, read blogs

I'm hoping that doing this will free up more time for me to get my housework done, read and to do things with the kids. I can't believe it is AUGUST 3rd already and we have hardly done any of the fun stuff I wanted to do. Where has the time gone?

What about you? Could you benefit from setting some office hours?

While I'm here...I thought I should set some GOALS for August too.
Take Kids to the Dinosaur Park
Take Kids to the Union Station Museum
Have a picnic with Monica and her kids at Ogden Botanical Garden
Catch up with the kids' Journals
Start planning for Christmas

What a good idea Connie. I need to set some boundaries. Although I try not to blog on the weekends.

Hope you are doing something fun today. My sister and her family are in town. I think we are going to the pool.

Ohh...I like. Good Idea - and I find myself trying to cram so much into the course of the day. I set limits and boundaries for my little girl, so, why no do the same for me?

Ouch! that seems like a lot of time social networking. I say only treat your time online as a business if your being paid as a business. Otherwise its needless stress..kwim?

If you'd like a tool for setting your goals, you can use this web application:

http://www.Gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
A Vision Wall (inspiring images attached to yor goals) is available too.
Works also on mobile.

I love your office hours! Maybe I could get a job with you?! My office hours include "working for the man from 8:30 AM - 7 PM" and allow for blogging from 9:30 - midnight once everyone is fast asleep... :-)

You're so organized! I would definitely benefit from setting "office hours". I've wasted entire days dinking around on the computer.

I'm inspired!
