So do not worry about tomorrow;
for tomorrow will care for itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own.

I've been in tears for a week.
It all started last Wednesday when I saw a tweet from a local Denver tweeter about praying for Joanne. I followed the link and found myself looking at a beautiful mom of 2 girls that homeschools, has written a couple books and loves God with all of her heart.
Joanne suffered a stroke on January 11th.
She's in a medical induced coma to reduce the swelling on her brain and will be in this coma for some days to come. Her husband has been updating twitter and her blog about her condition and I find myself looking for his updates and praying for Joanne several times a day.
I don't know Joanne. We just live in the same city and I'm worried for her and sad for her husband and girls. Please say a prayer for Joanne today.

Over the weekend, Alex had another headache. I've been worried that he's inherited my migraines because this is the third bad headache he's had in a few months. iKeith also caught him squinting while watching a video at the Boat Show. We decided the two things could be related and took him to the eye doctor yesterday.
Turns out he has a lazy eye. He needs glasses and maybe an eye patch to make his eye stronger. I'm pissed off at Lenscrapters because several months ago we walked into one of their stores when we thought he might be having trouble seeing and they told us they couldn't examin his eyes until he was 5.
This is utter bullshit! The eye doctor we took him to yesterday recommends bringing your child in for the first time at 3 years old so that you can catch problems like this and hopefully correct them. I'm beyond irritated that we could have started correcting this problem months ago.
And there's the other side of me that is so sad that he has to wear glasses at all. I've had a fabulous network of friends on facebook and twitter making me feel better about it. Those of you that have shared your experiences with me...Thank You so much!!
Tomorrow, I have to take him to have his eyes dilated and figure out the glasses thing.

| He'll Still Be Super Cute! |
***************
Yesterday was a big day for other reasons. We had a little field trip to our neighborhood elementary school so that I could register Alex for Kindergarten; just in case he doesn't get into one of the other schools that we've applied for. We got to tour the school and I was amazed how much it resembled my first elementary school. It almost made me sad that I don't want him to go there.
Mallory loved the school and is really bummed that she doesn't get to start when Alex does.
I spent the entire afternoon hugging and kissing the kids.....because I can't believe how fast they are growing!
Now someone pass me a tissue!

Joanne's story is so sad, your tears are warranted. I hope things improve for her. All the little kids I know that have had to get glasses all look super cute with them, Alex will just be another one to add to the group. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, Connie. Sometimes weeks like the one you've had are almost cleansing for me. I hope that's the effect it has on you.
ReplyDeleteParke got glasses when he was a little guy. Alex will look adorable, and even more importantly, he'll be able to see better! It's all gonna work out, friend. Hug those precious kiddos. Time does go TOO fast. XOXO
I have two friends with little boys Bud's age and they both are already in glasses. One of them since he was about 18 months. Lenscrapters is right. Always best to go to an opthmalogist, not an optometrist.
ReplyDeleteI am crying right along with you. I think that we need a new week. Maybe that one will be better.
ReplyDeleteI saw the Joanne situation and it's horrible. :(
ReplyDeleteYour baby is going to look ADORABLE with glasses.
They do grow up WAY too fast. :(
Hugs girlfriend! I felt like I've been missing you lately and now I see why, that's a very full plate of worry. Glasses are adorable and hopefully he'll grow out of it faster than you anticipate. A Mom Two Boys has been through eye issues with her middle one at younger than 2.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you've had a rough week. He'll be a dashing little man in his glasses and it'll be so nice when he doesn't get headaches.
ReplyDeleteJoanne and her family will be in my prayers.
I hope the appointment goes well tomorrow. Hugs!
I have a friend with a similar story { stroke #1 came 1 year to the day before her 4 year was diagnosed with cancer, stroke #2 came with a month of the 1 year anniversary of her daughter going into remission} as Joanne. She's in the process of making a full recovery...it can happen!
ReplyDeleteThat little man of yours is gonna be adorable in his glasses, like the kid from Jerry McGuire!
He's going to be just as adorable with glasses... don't worry! I am so sad for Joanne and her family. She definitely has a lot of people praying for them all! Life is so unpredictable it's scary!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a super emotional week for you but you're handling it great... kisses and hugs for the kiddos is the best medicine!
Aww :) Alex will look adorable in his glasses! My niece has been wearing them for a long time. My kids seem to have dad's eyes so far. My sister did say the same thing, eye check at about 3. But who thinks of that??
ReplyDeleteHugs to you this week! I hope you're not crying anymore :)
Connie, we found out when my now 15-year old daughter was a month away from being 5 that she too had lazy eye. We were shocked, as you are. The good news... she was able to wear a patch daily and now she wears contacts. We took her to a pediatric opthomologist in Dallas and she was so good, plus we were very persistent with having her wear the patch to improve her eye site. It worked and she now wears contacts and you would never know she went through this. Contact me if you want to ask any questions. Our doctor put a couple of families in contact with me since we were so successful with our daughter. We had some fun techniques to get her to wear the patch daily.
ReplyDeleteYour son is adorable with or without glasses!
ReplyDeleteSee doesnt homeschooling sound better and better when you think of how fast time goes by? No? Ok maybe it was just me
Wow, I am teary now. I will now be praying for Joanne, how tragic! Alex looks super cute in his glasses and please don't beat yourself up over it. We think Lil C might have a lazy eye, I guess we will have to wait to find out officially and S's doctor just told him the other day that he has a lazy eye and asked what has he done about it. He told him that he didn't know he had a lazy eye (neither did I until it was pointed out) and that he wore glasses as a kid but that was it. His sister had the eye patch for awhile but S never did. Alex will be adorable no matter what and he will be thrilled with whatever school he ends up in too so don't stress too much. I feel it is all about the teacher (and have learned that this year), so pray that he will find a caring, nurturing and creative teacher.
ReplyDeleteThis post makes me want to come over with a BIG BATCH of Margaritas and commiserate with you....
ReplyDelete~Becca
So wish we lived closer so that we could sit together with coffee and some low-fat muffins.
ReplyDeleteKnow that a big hug is being sent your way. I've worn glasses since I was 6 years old and should have been checked sooner, but my parents ran into the same situation, nobody would test little kids.
Take care.
Um - I think he may be even cuter WITH glasses. Adorable.
ReplyDeleteI think that my transitions with Oliver to "older kid" stuff are always easier since he has delays. We're THRILLED when he's moving on to the next thing. But the twins are my babies and one day I realized that in six months they'll be FIVE. That is far too old. I'm sorry - but I may not be able to allow it. Or I could just keep carrying them around on my hip like they're infants until they're 15. Either way - I'm not taking this well.
