Scenes From an Apartment: Mattressgate *UPDATED*

I know I complain a lot about my apartment.  I've put up with more than most people would (squirrels, stupid neighbors, paving my car inclowns outside my window) and you are going to think I've lost my mind (and maybe I have) when I tell you my next story and...that we've decided to stay another year.

I know, I know.  I need to get out of here.

Here's the problem....to get into a house in the area near Alex's school, requires that we double our rent. We're not prepared to do that...yet.  And based on the economy and how unstable it still is...we've decided to keep our expenses as low as possible.  I realize that this is NOT the American way.  We are bucking the system!

Back to the story.....

The people that moved in the same weekend that we moved in, moved three weeks ago.  I had a really hard time that day when their moving truck was here because I was jealous!!

When they left, they decided to throw out a mattress and box spring.

Exhibit A
The trash truck that comes 3 times a week (because my neighbors are pigs and don't recycle) never takes the mattress.  It's the kind of truck that has big arms that attach to the container and picks it up and dumps it in.  P.S. There is also a bag of clothes under the mattress that has been there for three weeks.

This mattress has been rained on and sat in 90 degree heat.  It is disgusting!

Keith went to pay the rent on Friday morning and I asked him to say something about the mattress because I'm tired of looking at it.

He came back shaking his head and did a great impression of our apartment manager.  She has an excuse for EVERYTHING.  She claims that she thought it had been taken care of already and that Mick (the squirrel hunter) was out of town until Tuesday.

Do you smell that?  It's B**ky's pants on fire! Liar, liar...get it?

Sunday Morning....I snapped this picture.

The half finished gazebo is a whole other story....that I'm planning to tell when it is finished.  This has been going on for TWO MONTHS!

I am now taking bets on how long this mattress will be here. If you guess correctly....you could win a prize!  LIKE me on Facebook for updates on Mattressgate!

UPDATE: July 6th 5:44pm

This afternoon....the mattresses were moved.

They were moved right in front of my BRAND NEW CAR!

I was beyond irritated so I moved my car. I stewed and posted on facebook and texted friends and  then I called the corporate office and raised the biggest stink you've ever heard.

10 minutes later....

Mattresses Gone!

  3. hah - I love the last pic.

For one how hard is it for the garbage guys to get out of their truck and throw them in the truck? Secondly, if they're not going to do that, how hard is it for the maintenance dude to take care of it? He's obviously not doing anything else, like catching squirrels or finishing gazebos!

    Apartment living blows.

  4. Ohhhhh dear. That's not a pretty picture. I'm going to guess August 3rd. Just because it doesn't seem like anyone is too motivated to do anything about it.

  5. I feel your pain. We'd be gone too if it weren't such an affordable deal.

(Now I know why it's so cheap, tons of older neighbors who have nothing to do but fixate on others.)

  6. I'm seriously lucky that my neighbors aren't taking pictures and blogging about my obnoxious yard! Sigh ... wait ... maybe they are! :(

    Gross!
But, seriously, CONGRATS on BUCKING THE AMERICAN WAY!!! The American way (that most people take advantage of) is the reason the rest of us (meaning me and you) are in this shit hole of an economical puddle!

  14. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is the best thing. Like staying in a crappy apartment so you can afford something better later on. I'm sure the payout will be worth it in the long run.

  18. you know I'm all into stories like this consider my asshat neighbor stories you have probably read a time or two... What could you do to get their attention-- this is going to drive me nuts....

OOOOh-- call the front office and tell them you heard of a mattress and box spring that they had for sale and were wanting to know how much it costs? You heard there was slight damage but are still interested.... also ask if they deliver. I can call if you want.

That's the first thought I had.
